About us

The Global Urban Research Group (GURG) is a multidisciplinary group that focuses on global urbanization, poverty, inequality and exclusion.

GURG was established as the Global Urban Research Centre in 2007 as a cross-discipline initiative of the School of Environment, Education and Development (SEED).

GURG draws on a wide range of research and teaching interests within the School, particularly from Planning and Environment Management and the Global Development Institute (GDI), but also from other centres such as the Manchester Architecture Research Group (MARG).
